Habitat Restoration and Preservation
Meadow and Habitat Restoration – Peace Valley Park
Spring 2025
This project was focused on restoring the habitat and hunting ground of a threatened owl species. It included the restoration of an overgrown meadow by removing all invasive plant species and reseeding the meadow with 200 pounds of native plant and grass seeds. In addition to providing funding for the materials required, we organized volunteers from the local Rotary Club and Key Club Student Volunteers from a local high school to help with the planting. In the spring of 2026 we will be organizing volunteers to plant 100 conifer trees to replenish the woods in which the owls live. We will be excited to share how the meadow looks in the upcoming spring season.
Vernal Pool Restoration – Peace Valley Park
Spring 2025
Vernal pools are temporary, seasonal wetlands that fill with rainwater and snowmelt in the winter and spring, but dry out by summer or fall. They provide unique, fish-free habitats crucial for breeding amphibians such as salamanders and frogs, and other invertebrates that have life stages adapted to water and land. In addition to providing funding for the materials required, we organized volunteers to remove the invasive plant species around this pool and planted over 600 native plants to protect the vernal pool and the area around it.
