Intern Stipends for Wildlife Rehabilitation – The Wilderz at Pocono Wildlife Center

2026

The HOW Foundation is sponsoring eight to ten full time interns for the 2026 rehabilitation season. Internship programs provide hands-on field-based training in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, husbandry, and release practices. Interns work alongside experienced rehabilitators and veterinary partners, gaining practical skills while helping to meet the growing demand for emergency response and daily animal care. Because the work is intensive and often full time, stipends are essential to ensure that qualified and passionate candidates can participate regardless of financial circumstance. Each intern contributes meaningful labor and care capacity, assisting with intakes, feeding, enclosure maintenance, medical support tasks, and public education efforts.  With wildlife admissions continuing to rise, intern support directly translates into more animals treated, stabilized and successfully returned to their natural habitats.  By funding these stipends, The HOW Foundation is investing not only in immediate animal care, but also in the development of the next generation of trained wildlife professionals and advocates.

Mobile Wildlife Education Initiative

2026

We have partnered with The Wilderz at The Pocono Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center to create a “mobile” education capability focused on educating the public about the importance of wildlife and associated strategies to coexist with local wildlife. The programs target children and teens, providing exposure to local wildlife to promote a greater understanding of the important role wildlife and nature play in our lives and to learn how to coexist, protect and conserve wildlife and our natural environment.
